Setting up

Follow the below instructions to get setup in the group

Procedure for Mac + Monitors and office space

  • Ambar will have to order the Mac and Monitor + peripherals for you once you join the group.
  • Ask Ambar to add you to prepurchasing so it is easier to get reimbursed for conferences and travel in the future.
  • Speak to the other group members to find out your office space assignment and location.

Account Setup

This section lists the various places you should set up an account using your UC Davis credentials. Having access to the sites in the section below will be necessary for doing your research and collaborating with the group. Having accounts in the non-essential section are useful but less important.

Essential

  • Box: Login through UC Davis and have Ambar add you to the group box

  • Slack: Add using UC Davis email, have Ambar add you to the group
    • Messaging Ambar: Ambarish Kulkarni on UC Davis Slack
    • Messaging the Group: kul-announcements
  • NERSC: Fill out form on this page, later Ambar will add you (and set up MFA, DUO)
  • XSEDE: Fill out form on this page

  • HPC1 and HPC2: Set up your SSH key using these instructions. Fill out the forms on this page. Then send your public SSH key to the HPC1 and HPC2 administrators.

  • VPN Set up the vpn to be able to access campus resources such as the library from outside.

  • Github: Create an account and have a group member add you to the kul-group organization.

Non-Essential Software

  • Zotero or Mendeley: for reference management

  • XQuartz for opening graphical displays when connected to a remote host, e.g. supercomputers

  • MobaXterm for opening graphical displays when connected to a remote host, e.g. supercomputers.
